an update!

We have been having lots of fun around here. We have more time because we're not rushing out the door twice a week for drop off and pick up, we get on with our errands that we would normally do on keira's pre-school days without too much extra effort. We water the garden and our new plants everyday and this is one of our favourite activities at the moment

and we've just started ballet....so we're busy busy busy, always doing something! Retro daddy has an extra $600 a month in his pocket as there are no pre-school fees to pay and I've already earmarked it for a new front fence and some tree removal before the year is out!

but best of all we've lost the really bossy behaviour towards the twinnies (ok most of the time). We actually play, roll around and want to play with the twins! Yay, we've stopped picking up bad behaviour from pre-school like pushing them over and because we're spending more time with them we're actually enjoying them. Now by 'we' I mean keira so well done keira, I'm so proud of you!

How lovely to see changes in behaviour already! Reinforces that you are making the right choice for your family. And big plus in the change in finances too ;)

Hi Corrie, I am a primary school teacher in the private sector and have spent the last five years with Year Ones in Qld which I think is equivalent to kinder in NSW. The children who came into my room and were very successful at school and by this I mean socially, academically and able to manage their behaviour, were the children who had spent quality time with their mums at home. I personally did not send my children to kindy only preschool. I felt their place was with me being children and playing, not completing worksheets that are against all the theories of early childhood education.
Two of my children are now at uni completing environmental science and architecture. My youngest is completing Year 12 and is hoping to get Dux. So as you can see the year at home did not stunt their academic growth and they managed the social side of school easily.
Have fun enjoy your little ones they don't stay little for very long.

Hi Corrie, I have been "homeschooling preschool" with Austin all year mainly becase DH thinks preschool is "glorified childcare". While I would have certainly welcomed the break from him with all the sleepless nights I have been getting with Madelyn, I know that he is thriving on the homeschooling. Anyone can give him praise and encourage him but the encouragement that means the most to him is that which comes from me. He knows all his alphabet, and will tell me what sound a word starts with. He loves doing sorting and patterns with the different vaiety of counting/sorting/patterns toys we can swap at the library each week, and we have none of the biting and bad habits he was picking up from childcare. There are a multitude of ideas on the net for kids craft and homeschooling preschool. Good luck with it all, and most of all, enjoy it.

Austin will be starting kindy next term, as I head back to work so the homeschooling phase for me is coming to an end. I feel a bit sad for Maddy now as she won't get that unless I can convince DH I need another year off work!

from a SAHM who has home schooled 5 children. We only have them a short while so we should influence them as much as we can. 3 have now finished school. 2 finished university and have good jobs ,i had all the worries about socialisation, my lack of knowledge. i gave them all I had and now have children that can talk with people of all ages, with respect and understanding.
